FREQUENZA FESTIVAL – the inner frequency of authentic music

de

Frequenza Festival, held between May 22 and 25, 2025 at the Auditorium Hall of the National Museum of Art of Romania, concluded with long ovations, warmly receptive audiences, and genuine emotion conveyed through chamber music of the highest caliber.

Conceived as a true sonic journey between tradition and modernity, the festival brought together renowned international artists in Bucharest, offering audiences a rich repertoire—from classical masterpieces to contemporary works and moments of strikingly subtle improvisation. The event confirmed its status as a benchmark platform for artistic excellence, creative dialogue, and the reunion between the public and chamber music in its most personal form.

Under the artistic direction of Sergei Nakariakov and Maria Meerovitch, Frequenza Festival became a meeting space for excellence in performance and authentic emotion. Among the invited artists were internationally acclaimed names: Kristóf Baráti (violin), Kevin Zhu (violin), Jing Zhao (cello), Roman Spitzer (viola), Sergio Carolino (tuba), Pavel Berman (violin), Elias Faingersh (trombone), Eva Bindere (violin), Zvi Plesser (cello), David Taylor (bass trombone) and Sebastian Burneci (trumpet), alongside the festival’s artistic directors, Sergei Nakariakov (trumpet and flugelhorn) and Maria Meerovitch (piano).

Over the course of four concert evenings, Bucharest audiences had the chance to experience exceptional musical moments in a refined acoustic setting that highlighted the essence of chamber music. Sergei Nakariakov, known as the “Paganini of the trumpet,” was one of the festival’s standout presences, delivering performances of rare sensitivity that earned open-stage applause. Pianist Maria Meerovitch led the musical journey of the evenings with heartfelt interpretations, most memorably in César Franck’s Piano Quintet in F minor.

At the heart of each evening was a subtle dialogue between classical repertoire and modern creation, between tradition and experimentation, between established masters and young performers with strong artistic voices. Frequenza Festival meant not only remarkable performances, but also meaningful encounters—between generations, styles, artists, and audiences.

I am truly happy to have experienced the first edition of Frequenza Festival together with the wonderful audience in Bucharest. It was a real joy to feel the appreciation and deep understanding of what we brought to the stage. The sense of connection—among the artists and between the artists and the audience—was truly special.

Maria Meerovitch,

Artistic Co-Director of Frequenza Festival

The festival enjoyed the presence of an attentive and engaged audience in an atmosphere of intense receptivity. Spectators came not just for the music, but for a certain state of mind, a rhythm of things that reshapes silence into harmony.

Frequenza Festival proved to be a space of musical depth and intimacy, a sonic oasis that invites us to listen differently—not just more attentively, but more vividly. We are delighted that Bucharest is reclaiming, through this event, its place on the European map of truly relevant chamber music festivals.
